Beginner Navigation Course 2

The aim for this one day workshop is to be able to plan a route accurately, estimate how long it will take and measure distance as well as develop an understanding of how the terrain affects planning. Being able to plan a route accurately is a very important skill—otherwise, you will have grumpy friends or family members (think, 'Are we there yet?' kind of questions). We will also start to look at contours more in-depth.

What we will cover

  • Understanding contours and how undulating terrain has an effect on timings

  • Basic navigational Errors and how to relocate yourself

  • The use of catching features and handrails

  • We will start the day by creating a route card and use it on our walk where you will have an opportunity to see how accurately you can devise a plan and what to anticipate from the terrain.

  • You can choose from either a private booking or to book a space on our open group events. For group event, we need a minimum booking of 2 people for the event to proceed. In the event that no other participants join, you will be given the option to either receive a full refund or to reschedule for an alternative date.

  • We have a low instructor to participant ratio (1:4) on our open courses. This is to ensure that we are providing really good quality teaching session and we are able to tailor the day to everyone’s experience and goals.
