Peak District Outdoor Bouldering Course

Bouldering is arguably the best way to get into climbing as you need very little equipment. It is all about technique so our outdoor bouldering course will focus on giving you the technical skills to either start outdoor bouldering or build on your previous experience indoors.

Peak District Outdoor Bouldering Course Content

Everyone comes on our outdoor bouldering course with different levels of experience and goals. This course is suitable for novices as well as climbers who have some previous indoor or outdoor experience who want some bouldering coaching in the Peak District. We will always speak to you before the day to find out exactly what you would like out of this course and how we can help you develop your skills. We offer Half and Full Days.

  • Bouldering outdoors and specifically gritstone bouldering is all about technique so you will learn the essentials such as smearing, mantling, transfering weight and even jamming!

  • We will cover safety whilst bouldering: how to use bouldering pads and how to spot properly

  • We will go through guidebooks and the grading system

  • Ethics and access: how to enjoy and preserve the rock for future generations

  • We will of course climb lots of boulder problems in some of the best areas in the Peak District

Venues are available close to Sheffield, Machester, Leek, Derby, Notthingham, Bakewell and Matlock. Please have a look at our favourite venues below.

Which course is right for you?

  • Our Half Day course is perfect if you are looking for a bit of a bouldering taster for smaller group or a family or you want to work on a specific skill.

  • If you want to develop your bouldering skills and get stuck in learning techniques, our Full Day is the right option. We would also recommend this if you have more than 4 people in the group.

    9 am-12 pm, 1 pm-4 pm, or 5 pm-8 pm

  • We will get in touch with you within 24 hours to find out a bit about your experience and your goals. We will then decide on location and the content for the day.

  • We have climbing shoes available (up to a size 14) and we will provide bouldering pads.

  • Bring warm clothing, sturdy footwear for the approach, water, lunch, snacks and suncream. If you have your own chalk bag and climbing shoes please bring those too.

  • If you have booked a session for the next day, we will get back to you as soon as we have access to emails. We are often working in the day out at the crag and sometimes there are a few hours in between responding to emails. If a slot is available and you booked the session, it’s on and we will get information over to you as soon as we can.

    Our booking system online closes 24 hours prior to the start time. If you would like a last minute booking within 24 hours please give us a ring and we will be happy to help if we can.

  • We will meet at the location car park to maximise climbing time.

Peak District Bouldering Locations

Outdoor bouldering in the Peak District is easily accessible from Sheffield, Manchester, Notthingham, Derby and only 2.5 hours drive from London, making it a great choice for a day out.

Peak District Bouldering offers some of the best climbing in the UK. Gritstone climbing is unique and requires a set of technique skills which will make you a better all round climber. Where better to practice than on some of the best gritstone edges in the Peak District?

The venues that we use for our bouldering courses are tried and tested and are some of our personal favourite - when we are not delivering the course, you will find us bouldering at these locations!

We will generally decide the location based on your experience, location, whether there are any young climbers and the weather. If you have a preference let us know.
