Learn to Set up Top Ropes Outdoors

Learning to set up top ropes allows you to climb at most gritstone crags in the Peak District without having to lead climb routes first. This is great for new climbers or existing trad climbers who would like to solidify their knowledge of building anchors. 


What you can expect to learn

  Top roping means that you have the climbing rope above you at all times- making this safe and secure way to climb

  • How to use Trad Climbing gear including, nuts, hexes, cams and slings and their use in anchors 

  • How to equalise points and create safe and secure anchors

  • How to stay safe whilst setting up ropes 

  • Different knots specifically helpful in anchor building 

  • Use of different types of ropes and their best application 

  • How to select the right route for your group 

  • Our experienced and qualified instructors will always tailor the day to your experience, fitness levels, and goals

  • All equipment is provided

Even though the focus is on technical skills, there will be plenty of climbing and we will top rope routes which you have set up.

This course is great for anyone who would like to get into outdoor climbing, have the skills to set up ropes for friends and family or for existing trad climbers who want to brush up on their skills. This is a private course and can be done either by yourself or shared. The ideal ratio is 1:1 or 1:2 but you can have up to 4 people in the session for no extra cost.
