Peak District Learn to Lead Sport Climbing Course Content
Our Sport Climbing Learn to Lead course is great if you would like to develop your skills and get into outdoor climbing. It makes a a great stepping stone to trad climbing. We will always tailor the day to your experience and goals but generally you can expect to learn the following skills on our courses.
Good technique which will help you to climb efficiently
Lead belaying
How to clip quickdraws safely
How to lower off a sport climb using different types of anchor
How to set up a top rope for projects
How to develop strategies to help with the tactical aspect of sport climbing, fear of falling, and route reading
How to project a route
Location - We are spoiled for choice with venues as there is a wide variety of different options. We will choose the best place based on your experience, your location and the weather.

Sport Climbing Course Options - which course is right for you?

This comprehensive one-day course will give you a good foundation for sport climbing, with the aim of completing your first lead.

The two-day course is more in-depth; we will visit two different venues, and afterwards you should feel confident to sport climb anywhere in the UK or abroad.

Course Information

You can check our schedule by clicking on your preferred course, where you'll find our availability on the calendar. Once you locate a suitable date, you'll have the option to make a booking and confirm your chosen date. Upon receiving your booking, we will reach out to you within 24 hours to discuss the itinerary for the day and confirm location.

We bring helmets, harnesses and all of the ropes. We also have climbing shoes that you can use on the day. If you have your own equipment you can bring it and use that.

Bring food, snacks and water. Living in the UK means that we have to be ready for all weather so we recommend packing warm and waterproof clothing as well as suncream! :)

We generally meet at the location directly to maximise our climbing time. Our usual timings are 9-4. We can start later if you are travelling in the morning so just let us know if this is the case.

The cost of the course includes up to 3 people. Once we receive your booking we will reach out to you and find out about your group, what everyone’s experience is and what are your objectives. We will tailor the day to everyone, regardless of different experience.
Peak District Sport Climbing Course Locations
Our Peak District Outdoor Lead Climbing Courses are conveniently accessible from Sheffield, Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds, and Derby, with only 2.5-hour drive from London, making the Peak District a great destination.
Sport Climbing in the Peak District is all on limestone. There are lots of different quarried limestone options which have routes suitable for beginner sport climber all the way to experienced climbers wanting to push their grade
For our introductory courses we use Stoney Middleton area as well as a few smaller crags close to Matlock.
